The first stop of the 23-24 season is now in the books. Sooooo, how did I do? From what I can see so far, it looks like my predictions were pretty spot on, minus a couple of surprises in the point distribution category. From here on out, these pre-stop articles will serve as predictions and commentary for individual matchups. Don’t like what I have to say? Prove me wrong. Use it as motivation. Or, message me if you get extra super triggered – don’t worry, I won’t feel anything but entertained by it.
City Morgue vs Class aXe: This is the match we’ll all be paying attention to, and it may indeed set the tone for the entire rest of the season. The team I gave #1 to, versus the team that thought they deserved the top spot. If Morgue puts up the same kinds of numbers that they did in week 1 and aXe bowls the way they did, this match will go down exactly the way I say it will. So unless the first stop was a fluke for both teams…
Prediction: Morgue wins, but by a much closer margin than they did against their first opponent.
Controlled Chaos vs Area 51-8: Look, I’m gonna get this out of the way right now – I am NEVER going to bet against my team. I don’t care who we’re bowling against, what center we’re in, or who is in our lineup… I have complete faith in my Aliens. That said, Controlled Chaos is one of the teams that beat us last season. Unless we can bring our A game, it’s gonna be tough. And I’m expecting a grind either way.
Prediction: Area 51-8. Because I don’t go into anything expecting to lose.
The Tribe vs BOA: Tribe currently has 26 points, and BOA has 2 after one stop. And while BOA did have almost 6700 pins thrown against them, their performance would’ve earned them an L against the numbers that Tribe put up as well. Another one of those matches where if everything stays the same, the results will reflect it. That said – it is still extremely early in the season, and anything can happen.
Prediction: Tribe will more than likely have their second win of the season after this stop. Their point total after 2 weeks is a bit more unclear.
Royalty On Da Lanes vs Team Beloved: This is probably the toughest match of the bunch to predict. On paper, these two teams are pretty evenly matched… but as we all know, bowling is not played on paper. After this stop, one of these teams will have their first win, and the other will be starting the season 0-2. In my opinion, this match is gonna go to whoever shows up hungrier.
Prediction: Royalty On Da Lanes eeks out a victory. Extremely close match, probably coming down to the final few frames. And this one is a total guess.
Apocalypse vs Da Royalty: In a lot of ways, this is the polar opposite of the match described above. Two teams with a win, one will be handed their first loss while the other will be starting the season undefeated. But one of these teams made the playoffs last season while the other was not even close to a spot. Also, if Da Royalty brings a blind to this stop, Apocalypse will make them pay for it, unlike what happened in their first match.
Prediction: Apocalypse wins. I see them taking 30+ points this match… which completely aligns with what I said about them in my preseason article.
Secret Invasion vs Devilz Rejects: My biggest problem with this one is trying to not come off too mean here… so instead of my own words, I will quote what I heard at the district meeting before our first match: “I completely forgot that Devilz Rejects were in this division until I read your prediction article” (anonymous). Ouch. And Secret Invasion? They’re pretty good. I think most of us are expecting a blowout here. But hey, maybe all this disrespect will light a fire that none of us can put out…
Prediction: Secret Invasion, with the potential of leaving with a 40 piece.
October 8th is right around the corner. The prophecy has been delivered. As of right now, it still looks like I know what I’m talking about, however bowling is extremely fickle, and anything can happen… but as it stands, I may need to add “Bowlstradamus” to my stable of nicknames and get me another jersey!
